Wusterhausen only received a rail connection in 1887 with the completion of the Neustadt (Dosse) – Pritzwalk – Meyenburg railway line - the first train ran in December 1886. Around 1840, the city leaders were still very skeptical about the railway when the Berlin-Hamburg line was being built, and so the built a station in the Neustadt area that was so important for economic development - they had left themselves behind. The economy also took off with the train - the sawmill, which was formerly located opposite the train station, had a siding and until the 1950s the building was nicknamed "Asparagus Station", because fruit and vegetables were delivered to Berlin from here. Today the RB73 runs here, and its preservation is a constant struggle.
